The objective of the research was to explore critical thinking skills in the face of the current consumer society in tenth grade students of the Nuestra Señora de Fátima Educational Institution in the municipality of Buenavista Córdoba through interaction with a metacognitive didactic strategy. For this, a methodological route was proposed with a qualitative approach of an exploratory type applied to tenth grade students of the Educational Institution Our Lady of Fatima of the Municipality of Buenavista Córdoba. The sample consisted of 20 participants chosen intentionally by considering each one's possibilities of participation. It should be noted that the study was conceptually based on three categories that were: didactics, metacognitive strategies, critical thinking skills and consumer society. In relation to the instrument used for the collection of information, it is made clear that this study used the in-depth interview which made it possible to identify which factors or situations hindered the formation and development of critical thinking skills in the face of the consumer society, as well as, examined how the implementation of a metacognitive didactic strategy contributes to strengthening critical thinking skills regarding the topic in question. Finally, the exercise allowed to decant the main theoretical assumptions that helped to understand, how a metacognitive didactic strategy strengthens critical thinking skills and thereby promote schoolchildren with the ability to learn autonomously, make relevant decisions, both individually and collective, even more so, they are oriented to the common good and problem solving.
