This applied project was developed with the objective of raising awareness among primary school students about the importance and care they must take when owning pets, since it is a responsibility to take into account. The abandonment, abuse, and indiscriminate proliferation of dogs and cats brings with it socioeconomic, public health and environmental problems, only with adequate awareness aimed at the care and protection of our pets by imparting knowledge from schools, and students replicating what learned in their homes from friends and family, this scourge can end. The results obtained in the survey that was applied indicated that students lack knowledge about responsible pet ownership, those who have pets at home and those who do not, if responsible pet ownership is required to be achieved, it is necessary to raise awareness among students and general population on the subject. Taking into account the information obtained, our purpose with this project is to be able to reach the 4th grade students of the Carrasquilla Industrial educational institution of the municipality of Quibdó-chocó through teaching materials, educational talks on responsible pet ownership and so on. They can become true caregivers of domestic animals. It was concluded that children can be a good tool as information multipliers so that topics related to responsible pet ownership can be disseminated in the different spheres visited by children, homes, friends, family, among others; Likewise, this topic could be included in the school environmental project (PRAE), where benefit the entire child population of educational institutions.
