The area of tissue engineering aims to provide more tissue and an anatomical structure similar to epithelial tissue receiver, decreasing the surgeries and improving the quality of life of patients with oral tissue defects. The object this article is to determine the techniques used and which has better results with using substitute’s buccal mucosa in the treatments of epithelial defects. 18 articles were analyzed in Spanish, English and Portuguese, Finally all items yield results successful in the rehabilitation of oral mucosa defects, Concluding that the most effective technique for developing of oral mucosa substitutes is the EVPOME (ex vivo replacements for the development of oral mucosa), noting that it takes more investigation in this area in the future it becomes in a therapeutic alternative for patients presenting alterations in the oral tissues.
