This research is based on a systematic analysis of literature, this focused on the use of solar photovoltaic and thermal energy in rural homes, this type of renewable energy has been gaining recognition due to its high positive environmental impact since there would be a decrease in the use of fossil fuels, to be replaced as a source of electricity in homes. The main objective of this research is to evaluate a type of sustainable housing for the use of photovoltaic and thermal solar energy, based on a review of bibliographic resources with the PRISMA methodology that could be viable in rural areas in Colombia for people with limited access to electricity. Through a qualitative approach was obtained and investigated theoretical basis of proposals made where photovoltaic solar energy is implemented as a source of electricity in homes, on the other hand, also addressed all the necessary factors in terms of costs, materials, types of energy and infrastructure, which serves for the construction of this type of housing that harness solar energy for rural sectors in Colombia. In order to evaluate and develop an infrastructure for housing that takes advantage of photovoltaic solar energy, it is necessary to consider aspects such as geographical conditions, design and capacity of the system in which the electrical demand is calculated, as well as architectural and structural factors, as a result of which types of housing such as passive houses, houses with solar roofs, ecological and bioclimatic houses were found.
