Componentes del programa de promoción y prevención en salud bucal dirigido a la infancia y adolescentes en la especialización de periodoncia y oseointegración desde 2018 a 2019
Dental caries is a preventable and non-communicable disease that affects the general population. In order to improve quality of life, programs for Oral Health Promotion and Prevention are carried out. The objective of this study was to describe the promotion and prevention program in health aimed at children and adolescents by students of the Specialization in Periodontics and Osseointegration during 2018-2019. Method. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted, including data from students aged 9 to 14 years in four educational institutions. Information was extracted from final documents obtained from the health and community department's archive, such as permission requests, standardization of criteria, fieldwork, survey on lifestyle and oral health, activities mediated by information and communication technologies, information processing, and sharing of achievements. Results. Out of a total of 137 individuals, information was obtained from 96 of them. In terms of gender, more women participated in 2018, unlike 2019 where there was a higher percentage of men. Good levels of knowledge, attitudes, and practices in oral health and lifestyle were found, but deficiencies were observed in the etiology and foundations of oral diseases. A strategy mediated by Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) was proposed in each institution, mainly through videos and an interactive game in one institution. Conclusions. The activities focused on supervised tooth brushing techniques and caries risk assessment.
