The main objective of the investigation was the review of validity criteria in a instrument to measure existing parenting styles in students of educational institutions designed by the Cooperative University of Colombia Headquarters Neiva which tried to standardize the instrument. However, it was not possible to reach this process, since construct validity problems were perceived, so the headquarters Bogotá proceeds to review the criteria of validity of the instrument in schools officers of the city of Bogotá D.C 2010. To this end, an investigation of quantitative, descriptive type where a random sample was made by selecting the institutions that would participate in the research, assigning each group of co researchers their locality and respective colleges resulting in a population total of 2,429 students at Bogotá level. In the end it is determined to perform a sampling by convenience where Miguel Antonio Caro school in the town of Engativá I authorize to participate in the research which was constituted by 253 students of stratum two and three, who attend between 6th and 9th grades of secondary school, with ages between 12 to 16 years. A factor analysis is carried out, finding five such factors as: Democratic-Affective, Democratic Communication, Communication, Requirement Control and Democratic, obtaining an explained variance of 32,966, with an alpha of Cronbach, 0.64. Contrary to what was found by Neiva where his factors were (democratic, permissive, authoritarian and uncategorized), postulating this test as one-dimensional
