Introduction: Bruxism is a parafunctional activity in which repetitive mandibular muscle movement occurs and is characterized by clenching or grinding of the teeth. The etiology is multifactorial, complex associated with occlusal disharmony and psychosomatic factors. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of aromatherapy with Lavender and Argan oils as an adjunctive treatment in patients using bruxism plaques, according to the patient's perception. Methodology: Randomized controlled clinical trial in 22 adult patients who used bruxism plaque and consulted at the faculty of dentistry of the University Cooperativa de Colombia. A group of 12 participants used an oily aroma of Lavender and the other of 10 participants aroma of Argan oil. Muscle palpation was performed before and after to evaluate muscle tension and perception survey for aromatherapy. A univariate and bivariate analysis was performed to compare the measurements between the groups treated with the different aromatherapy. Results: It was observed that the majority of the population studied were 59.9% women, the average age was 31 years, university education level mainly, regarding lifestyles, a high stress load was shown showing 83.3% in the lavender group and Argan 70%, and on average half of the population had dependents, and sports and coffee consumption. Regarding muscle palpation, the result was very positive, the response of the participants had differences with statistical significance before and after the use of aromatherapy. A palpation of the temporal muscle tendon showed mostly mild pain in 36% pretreatment, after the treatment there was an increase in the item without pain. Similar results with the pain evolution were found in sternocleidomastoid and digastric. Conclusion: Aromatherapy is effective as an adjunctive treatment in patients using bruxism plaques, according to the results of muscle palpation to patients and their improvement in the digastric tension, sternocleidomastoid and temporal tendon.
