Elaboración de un protocolo aplicable al manejo de gatos de vida libre, basado en una experiencia de captura, evaluación, esterilización y resocialización, con fines de adopción en el campus universitario
This work was done with the purpose of designing a document describing strategies and techniques suitable for the management of feral cat colonies in a defined environment, in order to improve their quality of life and the people living in their area influence, contributing to their adaptation in safe environments. The protocol is based on an experience of capturing, clinical evaluation, sterilization and resocialization, developed in the university campus of the Cooperative University of Colombia, based in Bucaramanga, using the method T.N.R. (Trap-Neuter-Return), used in several countries, which served as a basis for organizing the steps to follow in an intervention of this type. On the other hand, this practice led to a specific objective focused on the application of a general sequence suitable for the management of any feral cat colony as a significant contribution to the implementation of new animal and human public health programs within the guidelines Animal welfare and current standards. The results involve several moments that include: capture, clinical evaluation, sterilization and re-socialization. Each phase includes specific times and activities to have the expected effect.
