Census of Casanare cattle has sharply fallen and currently it is regarded as an endangered breed, being its estimated population of less than 1,000 animals. The study of animal genetic resources has a great importance to describe native populations, constituting zoometry a powerful tool for this purpose. Objectives: the goal of this research was to describe possible sub-breed groups within the Casanare breed in Colombia. Materials and methods: we studied 45 females from two different farms, ranging from 2.5 to 16 years of age, analysing 8 body measurements. Results: from obtained statistics it appeared statistically significant differences between farms, although they showed a well marked uniformity for all traits. Conclusions: both farms presented animals with morpho-structural differences between them, showing the presence of two distinct ecotypes.
