Facial recognition systems are becoming increasingly a tool that transforms traditional video surveillance systems, their implementation and deployment in different areas of application aimed at citizen security being a trend. This document shows the results of a referential research supported by scientific studies related to the international context, evidencing practices and application scenarios of facial recognition technologies, allowing the construction of a strategy based on the most adaptable alternatives to the National Police, cultural conditions and socioeconomic conditions in Colombia, determining technical and functional aspects that guarantee the operation over time. For this study, the facial recognition systems that operate through the processing of video sources were taken as a reference, detecting and comparing faces with interest lists, generating alerts about possible coincidences, which is why the Closed Circuit Systems of Television implemented in Colombia, both public and private, are the video sources to generate the added value that allow the deployment of actions to strengthen the Police service. Experiences on the use of these tools in European and American countries were analyzed, categorizing aspects of technology, regulations and the context of application.
