This report was made based on the activities carried out in the Colombian Agricultural Institute - ICA, department of La Guajira, dedicated to work for the benefit of agricultural health and agri-food safety of the Colombian kingpin. The Epidemiological Surveillance System at the Colombian Agricultural Institute - ICA is an essential strategy for detecting diseases and carrying out prevention, control or eradication programs. It allows documenting requests to obtain disease or infection-free status, providing data to support the risk analysis process, for animal and / or public health purposes, and justifying the logic of sanitary measures. Epidemiological surveillance data support the quality of country health status reporting by facilitating accurate risk analysis for international trade. In addition, it allows determining the appearance or distribution of a disease or infection, including the early detection of exotic or emerging diseases in spaces where missionary work is carried out. Based on the foregoing, the objective of this social practice consisted of developing an improvement plan on the provision of services, with a view to epidemiological prevention in the health presentation of diseases, in terms of prevention, control and eradication of diseases. For this, a set of various activities based on active surveillance was carried out, allowing the following results to be obtained: first, a lower presentation of diseases in animals. And second, a greater degree of prevention of officially controlled diseases in animals.
