This research emerges from the importance of knowing the beliefs of a group of teenagers about their personal identity, by participating in a virtual social network like Facebook, considering that nowadays, social networking sites have a large influence on new forms of interaction and socialization of young people. In this investigation, a non-experimental design, descriptive approach, with a sample composed of 7 male subjects of 11º grade of Institucion Educativa Técnico Industrial Antonio Jose Camacho, with ages ranging between 15 and 17. For the selection of the sample, teens with a permanent usage of the social network Facebook were taken into account. During the development of the research, there were new categories that emerged from the data proceeding of the interviews and focus group discussions, which were the data collection instruments. This allowed to find data that complemented the theoretical underpinnings, by comparing categories of analysis and data matching ,using the qualitative research program Atlas.ti ver. 6.2. Thus, Facebook is a virtual platform that enables users through this kind of interaction, to redesign aspects of themselves according to what they want to project over another, but also gives them the opportunity to experience different thoughts and produce spaces for discussion, through which teens can relate to other people and exchange meanings, ideas, beliefs or thoughts, so that they can transform those that conform to what, for them, would be a representative model of identity, something that became evident in most of the participants.
