This paper addresses the importance of financial education in the basic and secondary education system in the city of Santa Marta. It has been observed that they do not obtain the necessary basic degree of financial education, the school curriculum in many of the schools in the city of Santa Marta does not include financial education, and even those who have Economics or accounting do not always address what is important, thus generating illiterate in many basic economic aspects such as paying taxes, knowing your financial rights, financial usury and even in even more basic ways such as writing or cashing a check. All people make financial decisions that impact their future; It is important to understand the economic functioning to make good financial decisions, plan and generate rational decisions. Therefore, financial education is one of the issues to which few people attach sufficient importance, which has led several countries to promote the extension of the capabilities of the population, due to the importance it generates in the financial development of the town and therefore of the country. Financial education allows construction of social, financial, and human capital development.
