The validation of the formulas of potential evapotranspiration in the department of Meta is carried out as a research study at the Cooperativa de Colombia University Villavicencio-Meta, in order to determine an empirical method of potential evapotranspiration (ETP) that conforms to the tropical climax of the department, since Colombia does not have a method to determine it; In this way, 16 climatological stations located in the department are evaluated to evaluate them under the methods of García and López, Thorntwaite and Christiansen, based on the study of the previous thesis (Rodriguez, Barajas, & Novoa, 2014) in which Thorntwaite behavior and Christiansen was adequate for the climatological stations studied; The methods of Thorntwaite and Christiansen were taken into account for this study and replacing the Hargreaves method with the García and López method. The method of García and López is of great relevance because it is a formula that adapts to the tropics for latitudes 15 ° north and 15 ° south and the stations analyzed are within this parameter. For example, the ETP values are calculated for each station. Correlation to the evaporimeter tank. In this way it is contributed to the irrigation studies in the agricultural sector for the determination of the "amount of water required by a plant for the physiological processes of transpiration and tissue construction" (Buritic) and the assessment of the water balance in terms of climatology. When carrying out the calculation by all methods, an important aspect is taken into account, as well as the data of wind speed, which has been used in the method of Christians, which has not worked in the Institute of Hydrology, meteorology and environmental studies (IDEAM) for most weather stations; consequently, it is recommended to use a constant value of one (1), therefore, it has not been the final result of the ETP.
