In this study, reducing sugars production by Luffa Cylindrica (LC) hydrolysis was evaluated. The cellu-lose and lignin content (82.54% and 9.73%) of raw material, was determined and reduced in size by a cutter mill to a size of 100 mesh. The maximum reducing sugar content obtained was 1.207 mg/mL, 1.493 mg/mL and 2.441 mg/mL for acid, ba-sic and enzymatic hydrolysis respectively. The op-timal conditions of pH, time and temperature for acid hydrolysis ( pH 4.0, 60 min, 150°C), alkaline hydrolysis (pH 10, 30 min, 112,5 °C) and enzymatic hydrolysis to pH, amount of cellulose and tempe-rature (pH 6.2, 2.39 mL, 42.4°C) were determined by a design type Box-Behnken. Fermentation stu-dies were performed with immobilized Saccharomy-ces Cerevisiae at different conditions in order to va-lidate models obtained for each type of hydrolysis and achieved yields of 10% ethanol content for treatments studied.
