Breastfeeding is one of the most important processes for infants in their first months of life. It is associated with multiple benefits, including protection from infections, allergies, and sudden infant death syndrome. Main objective: this research was conducted an analysis of the most influential characteristics in breastfeeding in Buga, Valle del Cauca. Methodology: a cross-sectional study was developed from a database which evaluated women in the lactation stage between 2018 and 2019, in the municipality of Buga, Valle del Cauca. Results: 66.3% of the population continues with breastfeeding, abandonment begins at third month with 30.23%. Among the variables that experience adherence to breastfeeding are: spontaneous delivery, higher education, and receiving training on breastfeeding. Finally, the start of breastfeeding in less than one hour has a lower percentage (22.58%) in the abandonment of breastfeeding compared to those who started later. Conclusion: it is concluded that in the municipality of Buga there is adequate adherence to EBF, and that it is also higher than the national one in all age groups; It was evidenced that the municipality has high education figures and it is considered that they enhance the implementation Of this practice, as well as starting it in less than one hour after delivery.
