In the ocean and the atmosphere there is a phenomenon which the causes most of cyclones in the middle latitudes and it is the baroclinic instability. This paper present a general way to study the baroclinic instability with no restriction of an uniform flow base and a topographic constant slope. In a particular way the study was carried out with the method of baroclinic instability created for rigid vortices and irrotational, considering topographies with constant slope and parabolic in the zonal and meridional direction, and it was shown how the baroclinic inestability is affected by these ones
