This research was developed in the socio-environmental and hydrological interdisciplinary field, under the focus of sustainability and holistic perspective to determine and understand the environmental perceptions, focused on water resources, of the communities of the Parque Nacional Natural Chingaza, municipality of Fómeque. The results were obtained through interviews conducted with the communities of the zone proposals with direct and indirect buffer function; Quebrada Blanca, Chinia, Hato Viejo and Coasavista and Cerezos hamlets respectively. The size of the sample to be interviewed was obtained from simple random stratified sampling. The rural water poverty index was calculated, adjusted to local scale, estimated by means of three weighting methods applied to each one of the components of this index, where the selected method was the one determined with the geometric analysis, at the same time the estimation of the water demand was made and finally possible mechanisms of sustainable development for the community were proposed. One of the great contributions of the investigation, was the approach to the identification of the realities of the rural communities that live in surroundings of the Parque Nacional Natural Chingaza and the diagnosis of the behavior of each one of the study hamlets, where several appreciations of the community about its proximity with the park were established.
