The Municipality of Giron (Santander, Colombia) had as its goal the strategic line of tourism for the period 2016-2019: "To increase by 20% the number of tourists who visit the municipality of Giron. Unfortunately, the plans in this period were not positive to meet the established goal, a total of 23307 tourists were expected and in the new Development Plan, period 2020-2023, there is a report of 11792 visitors. There may be different variables that affect the expected result, among them: insecurity, economic recession and lack of disclosure. For this work, special emphasis will be placed on the lack of tourism dissemination in the municipality. It was found that the Development Plan, for the period 2016-2019, does not contemplate, in an explicit way, the different tools for the promotion/dissemination of tourism and culture, giving rise to free interpretations, which have left aside emerging technologies, using for this purpose the traditional methods (audio-visual publicity through videos and radio spots). Given that the Development Plan is renewed every 4 years, if emerging technologies are not explicitly included, the doors will be closed to possible projects that implement these technologies, which seek to increase the interest of tourists. In addition, the opportunity to increase the supply of media, which in turn allows for an increase in the number of tourists, would be lost. Several empirical studies, conducted in countries such as Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia and Morocco, have shown that the use of emerging technologies, especially the use of Augmented Reality, allows to significantly increase the interest of tourists, taking advantage of a rich multimedia environment. Based on the studies presented above, which cover a wide spectrum of population patterns, it is presumed that they are sufficient inputs to try to demonstrate that the implementation of Augmented Reality for the promotion of culture and tourism in Colombia will have the desired effect (increased interest of tourists).
