Colombia possesses the potential to produce and export different tropical or exotic fruits to European and Asian markets, thanks to its ecosystems diversity and to the impulse that the Government wants to give to the exports of non traditional producís. The yellow pitahaya (Selenicereus megalanthus) is one of the fruits, listed as potential export product, required at the Asian market. However, they are several points that should be known to consolídate Colombia as exporter, among which stands out the technical aspeets, characteristic of the plant. The main objective of this research was to evalúate the effect of pruning and behavior in flowering and fruit production of the yellow pitahaya, being treated with areal fertilization from different sources and dosages of potassium, searching to regúlate the production along the yearto fulfill the external demand of fresh fruit. The study was carried out in the municipality of Tena, Cundinamarca in a commercial lot, age 18 months, during two flowering cycles. The variables evaluated were: number of flówerbuds, flowers and fruits obtained per treatment. The treatment varied according to the pruning and the concentración and source of potassium, giving a total of 20 treatments, distributed at random in a complete blocks design with three repetitions.Tukey múltiple comparation tests were performed. It was determined that pruning of stalks, eleven weeks oíd ones differentiated the buds and after a drought stress achieved the development of the highest number of flowers and fruits; on the other hand, differences were presented, although non siginificative, among plants treated with Agro K, 1% and with KNO.,2%, for the variable number of flowers obtained; the average weight of fruits treated with KN03 was superior compared with those treated with Agro K.
