Caracterización de la conectividad estructural del bosque seco tropical en la ecorregión montes de María, Caribe colombiano

Abstract:

The Tropical Dry Forest (TDF) is a unique biome characterized by marked seasonality and the unique adaptations of flora and fauna to extreme climatic conditions. Additionally, this biome provides valuable ecosystem services to human populations. This research explores the structural connectivity of the TDF in the Montes de María ecoregion, Colombian Caribbean, over several years. The research focuses on characterizing the structure of the tropical dry forest in the Montes de María ecoregion during the years 2014, 2018, and 2022. To achieve this objective, a variety of analytical techniques and tools were employed. Specifically, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was used as a key indicator of the health and vitality of the vegetation cover in the region. Additionally, the calculation of Land Cover Units, adapted to the Corine Land Cover legend (Level 2), was performed, allowing for a detailed classification of land cover types in the study area. This approach facilitated the identification and monitoring of land cover changes over the years. An essential part of this study included a structural analysis of the landscape, which involved the calculation of landscape metrics. This analysis was carried out using Rstudio version 4.3 and the Landscapemetrics tool. These metrics provided valuable information on the structural connectivity of the tropical dry forest in the Montes de María ecoregion.
