The project "Design of furniture for the cabins of the project URKU-WASI (Ecolodge) in San Rafael de Laguna Ecuador", is developed in the community of Tocagón located in the Otavalo cnton of the province of Imbabura Ecuador, in the Urku- Wasi Eco lodge. Urku-Wasi (house on the mountain in Quichua) is an ecological lodging initiative, born from the idea of the Colombian industrial designer Edward Francisco Barragán Martínez in alliance with the community of Tocagón. The purpose of this company is to strengthen and contribute to the hosting offer in the region of Imbabura to become a flagship in the lodging sector in the region of Imbabura, differentiating itself from the other host services from its bio-building architectonic proposal. After doing an analysis to the company, it was determined that there was a design opportunity that could help to boost the differential factor of its architectural proposal from the inside. The project of business practice that was developed in this company had as a specific objective to design the furniture of the social zones of the cabins, with the purpose of strengthening the differentiated identity of the Eco-lodge. To achieve this, a process of research and conceptualization of the parameters that govern the company was carried out, as well as the needs and desires of the client and potential users of the space in order to determine the requirements that would rule the design of the furniture. All this was carried out based on Gerardo Rodríguez's design methodology and through the use of some QFD tools. The information obtained translated into a series of design proposals based on the Andean culture and concepts of Urku-Wasi, which were submitted to evaluation so the most successful would be chosen. When determining the proposal that would be made, materials, processes and crafters were defined for production, which was carried out in San Rafael de la Laguna with indigenous artisans who made use of materials such as totora and iron, combining them with techniques and processes such as ornamentation and knitting in totora for its elaboration. The final result of this project were pieces of furniture for living room and dining room (hidden bed-sofa, armchair, coffee table and bar-chair) full of cultural identity and aesthetics that totally attached to the concept of Urku-Wasi; which the customer was satisfied with. It is therefore concluded that the objective of the project was successfully achieved.
