The present research aims to review the possibilities offered by the graphic novel in the teaching of history, specifically, to analyze the potentialities of the graphic novel as a source in the teaching of history in secondary education in Colombia. Where an important aspect is that of establishing a dialogue between different historical sources, among them the graphic novel, which is why Gadamerian hermeneutics is adopted as a methodological approach, and in the pedagogical aspect, it is decided to follow the guidelines of the Teaching model for understanding, and in the pedagogical aspect, it is decided to follow the guidelines of the Teaching model for understanding, to incline for the development of historical thought. In order to achieve the proposed objective, the work is structured in three major moments: in the first, a theoretical approximation of graphic novels is made; in the second, the use of cartoons, comics or graphic novels in historical investigations is reviewed, is also the historicity marks are explained in the graphic novel ciervos de bronce by Camilo Aguirre; and in the third the didactic proposal from Teaching for Understanding is presented, for the historical subject in high school with the inclusion of the graphic novel as a teaching tool. As a result, it should be noted that, by using the graphic novel in history classes through pre-planned exercises of source analysis, the evaluation of the sources is enhanced by identifying, contextualizing and corroborating the information, in addition to recognizing the diversity of sources that the historian uses.
