Proverbs are an important part of learning a foreign language, both to know the culture and to practice grammar, pronunciation, etc. In Mandarin, proverbs are widely used in daily life, some have similar meanings as the text, and there are also many that contain many profound meanings that, if one doesn’t know the context and culture, he will never know what it is the meaning about. Up to today, there are few studies on the comparison of Chinese and Colombian proverbs. Research and comparison of Chinese and Colombian culture including Latin American culture are very limited, many people are interested of learning. However, there is still a long way to go. For Colombian students, learning Mandarin is more difficult than learning a similar language they speak, especially the part related to culture, which is very different from theirs. Meanwhile, if we compare among the Chinese proverbs and Colombian proverbs there are a lot of difference and similarity definitely. It is an interesting point to analyze and distinguish the cultural difference behind the proverbs. During the work, the practices are applied to find out the current learning situation with proverbs and the attitudes and methods they take. It is still a difficult part for Colombian students to understand. This project is dedicated to comparing the sayings in China and countries which speak Spanish especially in Colombia to summarize the key points and offer some recommendations to better understand Chinese proverbs while learning Mandarin. On the basis of the objectives and the practices that were carried out, both the need and importance of the proverbs in the teaching Mandarin as a foreign language and new methods in teaching activities are came out as the conclusions.
