Acording to a 2005 report from The WHO (World Health Organization) the quality of air is a direct cause of various illesses and even premature death, especially in enclosed spaces. On average, we spend 80% of our time indoors, therefore its important for the quality of air to be optimal. Subpar construction practices, low quality procedures and external air contact could cause structural issues that may lead to indoor air pollution. Kennedy is one of the most affected boroughs by this phenomenon in Bogota, due to their factories and large industrial areas. (Secretaria de ambiente de Bogotá, s.f).Nowadays, there are some air filters in the market that attempt to improve the quality of air indoors, but fall short due to their cost, hazardous materials for human health and lack of social responsibility. At the same time, they aren’t designed to be implemented in housing. All these factors make necessary to develop a biofilter from organic materials.; (Justavino, 2013). This situation represents a challenge in terms of innovation and creativity. Now more than ever its necessary to address indoor pollution in a smart way. That’s why the purpose of this research work is to develop an affordable biofilter system from organic materials easy to implement in housing independently of its geographic location. (INECC, 2019)
