This article identifies some intertextual links in the construction of Yo soy Betty la fea/Ugly Betty as melodrama. Through a comparative analysis between stories with a similar thematic axis, this paper shows how some adaptation strategies of the structure of a universal plot are used in the construction of this new narrative. This presentation of the research findings also highlight the contextual elements that allowed for the audience's identification with the story, the verisimilitude in the transformation of the characters and the consistency in the structure
