The present study aims to investigate the spaces of sociability during the second half of the nineteenth century in the city of Chillán (1835-1900), to understand the transition from a traditional to a modern society through the regulation of public spaces and the founding of institutions: the Fair, the Society of Craftsmen and Masonry. The analysis was of hermeneutical character through study cases centered on two principal topics: to establish a new public space and of sociability within the study period.
