Overweight and obesity can be considered the great epidemics of our modern era, being one of the main risk factors for various mental disorders, the objective of this research is. To identify what effects obesity has on mental health in a group of adults between 23 and 50 years of age in the city of Cali, with a qualitative method, approaches from a phenomenological perspective, pointing to the subjective experiences of the participants, with a total of 9 participants of different sex, where through the semi-structured interview the required data is obtained, yielding as a result, the relationship of obesity to social situations with their families and close contexts that produce anxiety and other mental effects such as depression and stress generating an increase in food intake. It is concluded that people who are overweight or obese have a greater risk of affecting their lifestyle and body image, in addition to generating factors such as stress, depression and anxiety in their mental health, among other physical effects that lead to chronic degenerative diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol.
