El Alto del Aguacate is one of the sites of the National Archaeological Park of Tierradentro, declared World Heritage Site in 1995, its main feature is the presence of hundreds of underground tombs located on top of the mountains, names hypogea, used for carrying out secondary burials and characterized by the profusion of mural paintings and reliefs in its rock walls. Four hypogea with the presence of mural paintings, located at the archaeological site Alto del Aguacate, were selected to carry out a multidisciplinary study that included the documentation, instrumental analyses for the characterization of materials, and an approximation to the technological aspects of the elaboration of the mural paintings. Subsequently, based on the results previously obtained, the examination of the state of conservation of the mural paintings was performed, which consisted of the identification of indicators, factors, and mechanisms of deterioration, later analyzed to produce an updated diagnosis.
