RESUMEN INTRODUCCION: El control de la infeccion por VIH/SIDA constituye uno de los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio y la calidad de la atencion en los servicios de salud influye en el control de la enfermedad. El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar la calidad de la atencion en VIH/SIDA de las Instituciones de Salud del municipio de Bucaramanga y la adecuacion de sus programas a la guia de atencion vigente. MATERIALES Y METODOS: Estudio descriptivo trasversal entre abril y septiembre de 2008. Se evaluaron los componentes de estructura, proceso y resultado de los programas en todas las Instituciones Salud que ofrecen atencion en VIH/SIDA y en una muestra al azar de 40 pacientes atendidos. Se diseno y valido un instrumento de evaluacion estructurada en instituciones y uno en pacientes. Como indicadores se evaluaron acceso y oportunidad de atencion, cobertura de terapia antirretroviral y satisfaccion de los usuarios. RESULTADOS: Se evaluaron 11 instituciones que atienden pacientes con VIH/SIDA. En el 82% de las instituciones hay integralidad de las diferentes disciplinas que conforman el grupo de manejo del VIH/SIDA; el 92% de los pacientes encuestados han tomado en forma oportuna e ininterrumpida sus medicamentos en los ultimos seis meses y se evidencio que el 85% de los usuarios se encuentran satisfechos. El indice de cobertura de terapia antirretroviral fue de 98,26%. CONCLUSION: La calidad de la atencion integral en el municipio es buena pero aun tiene muchos aspectos de calidad en las areas de estructura y procesos que pueden mejorasen para obtener mayores resultados. The objective of this study was to evaluate the HIV/AIDIS program’s quality in Bucaramanga, Colombia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Survey study between April and September 2008. Structure, process and result evaluation was made in all health HIV/AIDS services and in 40 patients randomly selected. A structured standardised questionary was designed and validated in health services and patients. Indicators evaluated included: services access and opportunity, coverage of antiretroviral therapy and patients satisfaction. RESULTS: Eleven health HIV/AIDS services were evaluated. There are participation of diverse professionals in 82% of programs; 92% of patients received their medication properly in the last six months. 85% of patients informed to feel satisfied with the service provided. The antiretroviral coverage was 98.26%. CONCLUSION: The quality of health HIV/AIDS services in Bucaramanga, Colombia is good but there are structure and process aspects that may improve to achieve better results.
