All living organisms in the universe, are in constant change. This article demonstrates that adaptative architecture has been present through out history and how this, reflects upon Heraclitus’ philosophy which states that the cosmos is in constant motion, and tehrefore constant change. This article glances through several postures or historically representative stages in history that support such idea; nomadism, organicism, adaptable scientific architecture, mobility according to Yona Friedman, and finally the Archigram. This article has been developed by the Adaptable Structure Research Group from the Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano, which is based on the idea that the architect does not determine neither the final use or the character of buildings and that it is the user of a building who decides and re-designs the form and use that he or she wishes.
