The rare earth based compounds (RE) and iron (Fe) RE2Fe17 has been subject of study for more than two decades. In these compounds the magnetic moment value relatively high as a consequence of the factor gJ from RE and Fe elements, besides exhibit a significant coercitive energy originated from the strong magnetic anisotropy due mainly to rare earth element. In this work it were synthesized the compouds Ho2Fe17 and Gd2Fe17 through the arc melting method. The thermal characterization was carried out by Magnetic Termogravimetric and heat flow measurements, which evidence the transition of ferromagnetic phase with critical temperatures at same range of those reported in the literature. The specific heat was obtained of the heat flow measurements and shows a similar behavior of the Y2Fe17 and Pr2Fe17 compounds.
