RESUMENEste trabajo expone los resultados de una investigacion cualitativa que, a partir del analisis semiotico, aborda, una novela recientemente editada, que se desarrolla en el ambiente rural campesino de la hoy provincia guanentina, representativa de la literatura Santandereana, escrita en el tercer cuarto del siglo XIX, titulada El Gamonal, de Nepomuceno J. Navarro. El analisis demuestra la hipotesis de que en esta obra se confi guran algunas postulaciones del Estado-Nacion en Colombia, las cuales permiten sugerir que esta obra, a partir de su personaje principal, es una representacion de una nacion en construccion. El analisis comprende el estudio del personaje principal de la novela, don Fausto, quien aparece como el dominador de las clases menos favorecidas, debido a su estatus socioeconomico, basado en la propiedad de las tierras e infl uencias consecuentes. Asimismo, nos remitimos al momento historico de la epoca, a traves del discurso religioso y politico que se entrelaza dentro del contexto de la obra. Este trabajo se estructura en tres partes: contextualizacion de la novela, aproximacion semiotica de don Fausto, el gamonal, y explicacion hermeneutica del mismo como representacion de una nacion en construccion. Para el analisis de la obra se toman como referentes los planteamientos teoricos respecto a la confi guracion de personajes de Hamon y el analisis semiotico narrativo del discurso segun Fontanille y Courtes.Palabras claves: Semiotica, Estado-Nacion, Gamonal, representacion. ABSTRACTThe gamonal by nepomuceno j. Navarro: A semiotic approach of a nation under constructionThis paper discusses a recently published novel, that develops in the rural peasant province, today Guanentina providence which represents the Santander´s literature. Entitled The Gamonal, It was written in the third quarter of the nineteenth century by Nepomuceno J. Navarro. Our proposed analysis attempts to test the hypothesis that in this work are set some applications of the nation state in Colombia, which allow us to suggest that in this work its main character is a representation of a nation under construction. The analysis includes the study of a character in the novel, The Gamonal, Mr. Faust, who appears dominating the lower classes, because of their socioeconomic status, land ownership and infl uence. Also, we refer to the historical moment of the day through the religious and political speech that is intertwined within the context of the novel. This paper is divided into three chapters: contextualization of the novel, semiotic approach of Don Fausto, the gamonal and hermeneutic explanation of it as representing a nation under construction. For the analysis of this work are taken as the theoretical references, regarding the confi guration of characters Hamon and semiotic analysis of narrative discourse by Fontanille and Courtes.keyword: semiotic, State-Nation, Gamonal, representation.
