La relacion entre movimientos estudiantiles y politica ha sido una constante en Colombia; igualmente, el acceso a la prensa se constituyo en algunos casos como medio de divulgacion y privilegio que les otorgo representacion y liderazgo en la lucha por sus ideales. El movimiento de los anos cuarenta en la universidad de Cartagena, no es la excepcion; si bien este medio permitio su reconocimiento y, aunque no cejaron las demandas academicas, estuvieron mayormente interesados en involucrarse en la lucha politica bipartidista de estos anos, sobre todo del lado del liberalismo hegemonico del periodo, organizandose incluso en movimientos o comite a nombre del socialismo y comunismo, posiciones de izquierda que empezaban a permear las instituciones universitarias colombianas frente a la oposicion conservadora que se hizo cada vez mas fuerte.
