Resultados funcionales de la técnica de placa antideslizante versus técnica de placa lateral para el tratamiento quirúrgico de fracturas del maléolo externo tipo Weber B
Introduction: Ankle fractures are frequent. Its treatment could be surgical and not surgical. The main complication is residual instability of the joint. This would affect its biomechanical behaviour resulting in loss of function and arthrosis. The objective of this study was to determine the functional outcome of antiglide plate versus lateral plate for ankle fractures. Methods: We designed an experimental study. We included in our study patients with ankle fractures type Weber B that were randomly assigned to two groups. Group 1 (31 patients) was treated with antiglide plate and group 2 (39 patients) with lateral plate. Functional ankle scales were applied. Results: 70 patients were enrolled in our study. We found better functional recovery 3 months after surgery with the antiglide plate group (p < 0.032). Conclusion: We found better functional recovery with antiglide plate for ankle fracture fixation.
