Contraband has been one of the most common inconsistencies in Latin America. The illegality in the importation of products has lead to great losses and legal effects to the countries over time. Most of the time, these practices are taken place under the premise that it costs less to enter merchandise in this way without knowing the advantages that it can bring to a company to legalize their merchandise and also ignoring the different types of benefits, ways and places that exist to legalize. Due to the above, the present study analyzes the free trade zone regime, its definition, background and its benefits as an instrument for the developments and opportunities for the local merchants, who can use this regime in order to import goods lawfully, supporting not only their industries, but also the State and society, facing all the repercussions that that smuggling brings with it. Having analyzed the monograph, it will be possible to conclude that smuggling damages the economy of a country, due to the unfair competition, harming the companies who operate legally; promoting unemployment and informal labor market. These consequences have as a base the disinformation and the mentality of making easy money without taking into account the costs and penalties for the state economy.
