Traditionally, the practice of selection of design parameters of water treatment plants is based upon general recommendation found in textbooks which ignores the specific characteristics of the supply water quality. We propose an alternative methodology for the design based on the modified jar text. Results of 11 cases are presented to illustrate the method and verify the results. The main conclusion is the quality of the water to be is of fundamental importance in the design of treatment plants.
