Studies and research on the business history of this country of regions have had an important advance for a quarter of a century. The business historiography of the Caribbean Coast, in particular, has grown in volume and quality, as several chapters in this book attest. His focus is on critically examining the state of the art in this academic field and the lessons that follow. Knowledge of the past allows one to examine how problems similar to those faced in business life today were handled. Likewise, it underlines the recognition of reality as decidedly plural, diverse and dynamic in the Schumpeterian sense of the term. Critically understanding the decades-long historical business legacy that underlies their daily actions is a more sensible and fruitful option for students, teachers, administrators, and entrepreneurs than speculating on the corporate should be.
