Relación entre el cumplimento de las recomendaciones de actividad física y la composición corporal en estudiantes de electivas de deportes de conjunto de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana
University students tend to gain weight and decrease their activity level during university years. Therefore, this study aims to stablish the relation between meeting physical activity recommendations and body composition in sports electives students from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. In order to establish this correlation, students’ physical activity for 7 days (using an Actigraph wGT3x-BT monitor), body composition (using the seca mBCA 514/515) and sociodemographic variables (applying an online survey) were measured. The study’s sample was of 220 students, from 5 sports electives, and as a result, body composition variables were very close to the 50th percentile, in women and in men, and 96,7% of students met physical activity recommendation; however, a weak correlation was found between minutes of moderate-vigorous physical activity and FFMI, correlations (weak) with the other body composition variables were not statistically significative As a conclusion, results obtained from this study were great findings for healthy lifestyle programs in university campuses.. Author suggests the evaluation of other variables that may explain these weak correlations, and the generation of reference values of bioimpedance for Colombia in order to allow a better nutritional status assessment for Colombians.
