The general objective of this research is to characterize the university teaching of economics in Colombia. The economy programs in Colombia arise in a context in which the country was undergoing changes in its institutions (Montenegro, 2017). The great challenge of implementing new technologies, information and knowledge (ICT) in the learning of this discipline (economics) emerges as a primary factor in the comprehensive training of future professionals. The work is carried out by means of a bibliometric analysis with a sample of 1257 documents published on economics courses in university education through the SCOPUS database; Through the VOSviewer software, the co-occurrence of the keywords related to the subject is obtained. The methodology also includes a quantitative and qualitative study of the national economic programs with a population census of 85 study plans which must be directed to the current demands of the labor market, to face the real socio-economic problems of Colombia. Subsequently, the comparative analysis of the study plans allows a critical assessment of their orientation towards the precepts of the new economy given the current circumstances of COVID19.
