Since the 1960s, Colombia has been presenting a major educational breakthrough with the offer of engineering programs. Consistent with this in the departments mentioned, there is significant growth, which by 2020 had an offer of more than 100 engineering programs. This breakthrough has been built and has been made possible by the contribution of several generations of engineers, in different fields; with their work as teachers, researchers or administrative. Women's participation in the world of engineering is perceived to be stigmatized, as it is considered a traditionally exclusive area of knowledge of the male gender. Because of this, the Southwest Industrial Engineering Network; it seeks beyond percentages, to specify characteristics of the recruitment behavior of female professionals, in administrative, teaching, research and social projection activities, which contribute to the training of engineers, so that a valuable input is reached that will allow to establish fundamental reasons that motivate women to make this decision. According to the latest report presented by Unesco, in 2018, in the world, women accounted for (43%) teachers in higher education, a percentage that is further reduced when discussing women's participation in senior management positions. In Colombia, it is estimated that the percentage of women's participation as teachers in higher education (38%) increased by 5% between 2007 and 2018, as has research participation. According to data delivered by Minsciences (2019), only 38% of scientific researchers in Colombia were women. Some studies mention that the type of recruitment, salary, specialized studies and the possibility of holding senior positions in IES, remain indicators of the inequity prevailing in such organizations. Hence, the role of women in administrative positions, teaching and research has a visible impact in terms of leadership, equitable social strengthening and the shift of the gender paradigm around engineering. Taking into account the above, the identification of behavioral traits and the environment, will facilitate the generation of an analysis related to post-gradual training, motivation of entry, permanence, important challenges, as well as possible causes of withdrawal from participating in engineering faculties of IES in the Cauca and Valle del Cauca.
