Comportamiento anómalo en niños con atopia severa que asisten a la clínica de asma y consulta de neumología en el Hospital Militar Central y en la Fundación Hospital de la Misericordia
Asthma is the most common chronic disease during childhood and adolescence. A higher prevalence of psychiatric symptoms has been documented compared with healthy individuals, predicting greater severity of asthma and interfering with adherence to treatment programs. The aim of this study is to identify the presence of internalizing and externalizing disorders in children between 6 to 11 years at two public institutions in the city of Bogota. Materials and methods: A descriptive retrospective study was conducted evaluating the presence of behavioral symptoms in children aged 6-11 years diagnosed with severe atopy collected via Child Behaviour Check List (CBCL). Data analysis was processed using SPSS software version 20. Results: A total of 100 patients were included in the study, of which 63% (n = 63) were male. The average age was 7.7 years. 39% of the sample had a positive score on the CBC; internalizing disorders accounted for 79% (n = 31) of the positive scores, 61.5% for externalizing disorders (n=24) and 46% (n=18) were positive for both subscales. No statistically significant association was found between sex and the subscales. Conclusion: Children with severe atopy have a high prevalence of internalizing and externalizing disorders, thus it is important to include strategies for identifying psychopathology in the clinical approach for this type of patients, generating timely interventions in this population.
