Introduction : Worldwide, the consumption of pesticides has had great growth in the market; a similar situation occurs in Colombia, where these products are distributed in thousands of tons; increasing in this way, occupational exposure and poisoning; thus, requiring the mandatory use of personal protection elements (PPE) of exposed workers. Objectives : To describe the perception about the use of personal protection elements in workers exposed to pesticides in a floriculture company in The Rosal municipality of the department of Cundinamarca, Colombia. Material and method : Concurrent nested mixed study of a qualitative dominant model of a descriptive phenomenological type. Non-probabilistic convenience sampling was carried out, taking into account the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The size of the sample was obtained by the criterion of saturation of the information. To describe the perception, a semi-structured interview was used. Results : 63 semi-structured interviews were carried out, the results showed that the vast majority (95.2 %) manifests safety with the use of personal protection elements; the workers emphasize their inappropriate use due to their characteristics. Conclusions : Inappropriate use of PPE was described in the population exposed to pesticides; however, this inappropriate use is not related to erroneous perceptions about PPE or pesticides but to specific characteristics of the same and the environment.
