The objective of the research was to analyze the management of cognitive ergonomics as a preventive practice in managers who work in higher education organizations. For its development, an inductive empirical epistemological approach is assumed, framed within the quantitative positivist paradigm. The study is classified as analytical-descriptive with a non-experimental, field, cross-sectional design, where a population made up of forty subjects who work in the management of public universities attached to the Cesar department participated. The results indicate that the development of the processes: perception, search for information, memory and sensation in the surveyed managers is weakened, revealing deficiencies linked to the application of cognitive processes in the construction, reasoning and organization of knowledge in compliance with their labors. The creation and execution of procedures aimed at expanding and stimulating the use of the mind is required, facilitating the processing of information, also promoting the conscious and controlled practice of the processes that favor critical thinking for the achievement of institutional objectives.
