The present research was carried out in the department of Caldas, specifically in the five universities that meet all the inclusion criteria according to the analysis previously performed. Through the application of an interview, the information was collected and the analysis of the same was carried out with the help of software. This research consists of a progressive development of several stages that start from the collection and bibliographical revision to the processing of the data obtained in the field, correlations and analysis of the results that allow to integrate all the categories in a matrix of levels of internationalization. Identification of the universities that exist in the department of Caldas is carried out, then the matrix of identification of the criteria of inclusion or not of the universities is realized. And based on the categories, indicators, factors, objectives and stages an interview is defined that is applied in the 5 universities that were part of the study in the department of Caldas. The application of this instrument allows the collection of the information necessary to locate in a matrix the level of internationalization of HEIs in the department of Caldas. The results of the study allow us to conclude that the HEIs under study have developed tasks in order to stimulate internationalization. However, the lack of coordination and clear policies, the internationalization of the universities of the department of Caldas is still in primary stages and requires administrative and economic efforts to carry out actions that promote international culture throughout the HEIs That they consider doing so; As a response to the increase in competition and to the increasingly globalized supply of higher education.
