Alloys suffer from rapid oxidation when their surfaces are covered with a thin layer of molten salts such as sodium sulfate salt (Na2SO4) present in the atmosphere of these parts. One of the effective ways to protect these parts is by enriching their surfaces with aluminum. In this work we studied cyclic oxidation with salt vapor at 1080 oC. High efficiencies in gas turbines, due to higher operating temperatures. Multi-layered systems provide thermal insulation and protection from high temperature corrosion. In this work, two different coating at 1050oC are characterized. We calculate the weight gained during the coating process, the weight lost during oxidation. Thermal barrier coatings using zirconium oxide indicates a good stability.
