Objective: To describe the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of patients diagnosed with dengue at the Clinica Universitaria Colombia during 2013 and 2014, classifying them in accordance with the definitions established at the national level. Methodology: Retrospective, descriptive study of patients diagnosed with dengue at Clinica Universitaria Colombia during 2013 and 2014. These cases were identified from the mandatory report to the National Public Health Surveillance System, via the notification record card reporting the cases confirmed by the clinical laboratory. The analyzed variables include person (age and gender), space (place of origin), and the clinical variables corroborated in the medical history of each case. Results: A total of 499 cases diagnosed with dengue were included: 250 for 2013 and 249 for 2014. In both cohorts, the age range was 1 to 89 years, with the most affected age group from 30 to 39 years of age. There was a prevalence of males in the study, with 53%. In terms of place of origin, over 67% of the cases were from the Departments of Cundinamarca, Tolima and Meta. In accordance with the clinical manifestations, the four most frequent symptoms were fever, myalgia, arthralgia, and head ache. Around 66 % of the patients with severe dengue presented with GI manifestations. Discussion: The total number of cases diagnosed and the distribution by age groups in the two years was similar to international reports, evidencing a considerable increase as compared to the previous years. The Departments with the highest incidence are inconsistent with the national reports, probably due to the geographical location of Bogota. The clinical manifestations were characterized by general and GI symptoms, with a similar behavior to the cases recorded at the national level. The detection of IgM antibodies has a specificity and sensitivity similar to those found with the NS1 protein detection test used at Clinica Universitaria Colombia.
