The main purpose of this research was to identify the different motherhood notions in women who decided to be childless, going in debt on different aspects of their lives such as breeding, interpersonal relationships, ideas regarding the realities in which they live, their life projects, self-concept and its influence on the subjectivities development and the reasons that led them to choose non motherhood. To do so, a mixed methology was chosen, made up of a survey and an semi-structured interview. The first sample was applied to fifty-five adult females who didn’t consider to be a mother as a life option, from which two were selected to be interviewed. The outcome from both techniques didn’t correspond to each other, even though they were put into dialogue, generating new interpretations about motherhood notions, empowerment of new ways to be placed in the society and the factors that come into play the shaping of identities which oppose mandatory motherhood. The principle discoveries revolved around freedom achievement from women, non motherhood as a dispositive of cultural resistance, access to power and the importance of reconsider cultural transmited patterns. In addition it was found that the issue of motherhood goes inevitable through women’s life, eliciting contrary feelings, ambivalence and struggle building up their life perspective, guiding their action capacity.
