A periphyton community was studied at the Chingaza National Park, between October 1988 and February 1990. Samples every two months were taken at 4 defined stations in the Chingaza pond. Physical and chemical water characteristics were also studied in order to settle biotic and abiotic relationships 62 algal species were found. 5 diatoms (Cymbella lanceolata, Fragilaria virescens, Tabellaria flocculosa, Epithemia turgida, Navicula sp.) and desmidian Closterium sp. represented the most important community members. Periphyton shows temporal changes due to climatic characteristics and the literal zone influence meaningful at the community development. Chingaza pond, can be defined as oligotrophic, nitrogen limited, low pH and low mineralization water body.
