espanolLa zona bananera de Uraba y su area de influencia se ha dividido en las siguientes unidades geomorfologicas: Complejo Costanero de Uraba, Planicie Aluvial del rio Leon, Abanicos Aluviales del Piedemonte de Apartado, Terrazas Bajas de Guadualito y Colinas Bajas de la Serrania de Abibe. Esta ultima esta conformada por rocas sedimentarias consolidadas del Terciario Superior, en tanto que las demas constituyen los depositos aluviales o transicionales no consolidados del Cuaternario.En la parte norte de la zona bananera se han identificado tres acuiferos: uno poco profundo del cuaternario aluvial-deltaico contaminado con agua salada, otro intermedio del relleno aluvial con el mejor potencial de produccion y un tercero profundo constituido por las areniscas y conglomerados del Terciario.Las aguas subterraneas en general son poco dulces, tienen alta dureza y alcalinidad y un excesivo contenido de hierro. En los pozos construidos hasta hoy se presenta contaminacion bacterial por coliformes. El uso de estas aguas para riego y para consumo humano requiere tratamiento. EnglishThe Uraba banana region and its vicinity is divided in the following geomorphic units: Abibe Serrania Small Hills formed with consolidated sedimentary rocks of late tertiary age; Uraba Coastal Complex, Leon River Alluvial Plain, Apartado Piedemont Alluvial Fans, Guadualito Low Terraces, all of them alluvial-deltaic deposits of Quaternary age.Toward the north of banana region, three aquifers are identified: a) a surficial aquifer contaminated with salt-water; b) an intermediate semiconfinated aquifer with the best production possibilities; c) an artesian aquifer formed by tertiary conglomerates and sandstones. Underground waters are of high hardness and alkalinity with excessive iron contents.The water wells perforated up to date, have contamination by colis. Ground waters for human use and irrigation purposes must be treated.
